BACKGROUND

Master Plumbers New Zealand (MPNZ) is the industry body for the plumbing, gas fitting and drain laying trades in New Zealand and this year they celebrate their 124th year. MPNZ supports over 900 members including Master Link which is the apprentice side of the business where they support over 250 apprentices.

In this case study we are joined by Rhys Nimmo (General Manager) and Craig Pomare, (Operations Manager) from MPNZ to discover more about their experience working with Causeis on the implementation of the Causeis Launchpad®.

PROBLEM

MPNZ had embarked on an ambitious upgrade project and after an 18-month engagement with another partner where they had little to show for it. A new team was appointed at MPNZ to lead the project and tasked with getting the project back on track and delivered in a timely manner.

CHALLENGES

MPNZ had already invested significant time and resource into the project and questioned if they were on the right path. They refocused on understanding the ‘why’ behind the project with their CEO providing the inspiration which was:
“To enable the organisation to better engage with their members whilst also gaining efficiencies for the team so the team can focus on providing a membership service in an engaging way”

SOLUTION

With this north star guiding them, MPNZ investigated if there was an alternative to the path they were on. It had been a long road to get to this point, and the MPNZ team were understandably anxious about finding an alternative. However, after several meetings they appointed Causeis.

MPNZ brought extensive leadership experience to the project and set up four guiding principles to ensure the success of the project:

  • Set up a good governance structure – MPNZ set a Project Leader, Project Sponsor and Project Guide to ensure internal alignment
  • Look for features that are out of the box rather than trying to customise everything
  • Look for the easiest most effective way to get things done – don’t overcomplicate things
  • Work within the expertise of the partner

MPNZ worked with Causeis from October  2024 – April 2025 to deliver a new membership system fuelled by the feature-rich Causeis  Launchpad powered by iMIS®. In just 6 months, Causeis delivered a full implementation and  data migration across:

  • Membership
  • Finance
  • Events
  • The website
  • New member services

Together MPNZ and Causeis delivered a new digital membership system in record time.

RESULTS

From facing a 3 year project roadmap to a 6-month implementation MPNZ are way ahead of where they could’ve been.

The feedback from internal stakeholders has been overwhelmingly positive as has the feedback from members.

In the first month since launch MPNZ have had over 400 unique logins to the system which is a great signal that members are engaging with the system like never before. It’s given control to their members to market their services in a way they’ve never
had before.


The momentum internally is strong as this project has restored the team's confidence to deliver big projects on time and on budget which is quite a turnaround from where it started.
